Anticipation!!

What's a BIPPIE?   My coworkers tell me that my husband and I are hippies.  As Baby Boomers we certainly did grow up in the 60-70's and still have a lot of our hippie ideas about peace, love, understanding and freedom. Hopefully we are a lot wiser now but I think the world needs more hippies to show a way to live without hatred and conflict.  We still want to help "save the world" any way we can.  Since I didn't want to be called an "OLD hippy", I made up a new word.  BIPPIE is a blend of Boomer and Hippie and I have been SET FREE from the constraints of the job I loved very much. So, my blogspot is Route66bippiesetfree and I hope you enjoy it. We will be heading out on April 13th.

It seems like i have been waiting for this trip forever!  I decided in September to retire this April, 2012 from the hospital where I have been a nurse for 38 years.  My husband retired in June of 2011 from the local school system where he was an elementary school principal.  We have always loved travel and have visited almost all the states over the years, with and without our 3 kids.  In this next chapter of our lives, we hope to use our new freedom to travel, visit family and spoil grandchildren, read, volunteer, plant a garden, and just enjoy life!  Our first big adventure is a month long road trip in our VW beetle convertible.  We will start in Chicago at the eastern end of Route 66  and take 12 days to reach the western end at Santa Monica Pier in California.  The plan is to NOT HAVE A PLAN.  We have a guidebook to help us find all the good parts of the route.  I plan to blog everyday to help others with their future trips on "The Mother Road".  I hope you enjoy!  At the end of the 12 days we will head north through Yosemite National Park and Reno, Nevada to Boise, Idaho for a week to celebrate our granddaughter's second birthday and then we will resume our trip for the last week back to home, route to be determined but tentatively, through Utah to visit Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks.
